Weekend Life...The English Countryside

A few photos from a day in the English countryside in summer this year.

While I love travelling to other countries, I also want to explore more of Britain so we have been taking day trips with friends, all within about an hour or two of London, over the last few months. For this day trip we headed to Oxfordshire to the pretty little village of Goring-on-Thames for coffee* and a look at how the lock operates before getting drenched (hellloooo English summer weather!) and scurrying back to the car.

Back in the car for another 20 mins, through winding back roads and we had arrived at our lunch destination in Berkshire, The Pot Kiln. We didn't have a booking (the restaurant was full) so braved the mizzle and sat in the garden on bench seats. A bottle of champagne, ploughman's lunches, venison rolls, a frolic with the cows** and clearing weather later, we had full tummies and were declaring that we simply must all move to the country ;)

*Try Pierreponts
a sweet little cafe beside the lock/bridge. We only had coffee but the homemade sweet treats looked delicious.

**maybe not so much a frolic as a "Oooo look at the lovely cows. Oh wow, they seem to be moving in closer. Sh*t. Press the bluddy shutter button and walk.away.slooooowly!" I had a bit of a bad experience with a young bull a couple of years ago (I blogged about it waaaaay back) so I am a bit weary of advancing cows now, as much as I think they are beautiful.

p.s. The barbie in the last photo? We had that when we got home :)

Paris Fashion Week SS 2012....Winnie

I feel like today's posts are a celebration of beautiful, feminine dresses (and skirts), prints, florals and great shoes (and legs!) to top things off! Maybe it's just that time of year or something......with parties and get-together's in abundance.
p.s. I thought this girl was so cool. When I asked her name, she quipped "Winnie....as in Winnie the Pooh!". Awesome! You have to love a girl with a sense of humour and glitter booties ;)

Weekend Life....Stockholm

A few photos from a quick trip to Stockholm after Paris Fashion Week. I really want to go back during the summer and explore the islands of the archipelago. But for now here are a few of my fav places to go in Stockholm:

Eat:
PA & Co in Östermalm. Slightly tricky to get a reservation (it is tiny) but so worth it once you are seated. The cod in butter sauce and skagen* was divine as was the sauteed wild mushrooms on toast. A cosy place to while away a couple of hours over a bottle of wine especially on a frosty winter's evening.

Nytorget Urban Deli perfect for a casual lunch (sit on the outside bench seats if there is room...and the weather permits). We shared the steak tartare and the skagen toast (clearly I have a thing for small nordic sea creatures drenched in mayonnaise and dill ;)

Restaurant Sturehof always, always good. Had an awesome night out with Swedish friends here last time I visited.

Östermalms saluhall market hall. Wonderful for lunch, an afternoon snack with a glass of wine, or for picking up provisions for a picnic in summer or dinner if you are staying in self-catering accommodation.

Fabrique bakery for fantastic bread and kanelbulle (cinnamon scroll/buns with a hint of cardamon).

Cinnamon buns and hot chocolate in the heart of Gamla Stan at Chokladkoppen.
Coffee:
Sosta Espresso Bar. These boys never fail to deliver a perfect caffè latte.

Bianchi cafe and cycles
Shop:

Love the Byredo store for perfumes and candles;

Nudie Jeans boys schmoys. Girls wear 'em better ;)

Grandpa for cute and quirky clothing, vintage and homeware oddities;

Acne. duh!

Sleep:

We rested our weary heads (can't even use jetlag as an excuse!) at the Hotel Stureplan. I have stayed at this 19th century-built hotel each time I have visited Stockholm and always find the staff welcoming and the rooms beautiful (love the chandeliers in each room). Great location as well.
