I completely obsessed with hats at the moment: photographing them, trying them on and scheming a way to adopt a La Cerise Sur Le Chapeau fedora (preferably in deep plum, thank you). And Kenzo did the most brilliant hats (and fabulous bohemian pieces) for A/W 2010 which the models got to keep after the show.

ReplyDeleteI like that you take the time to write stories for us. Though the pictures would be enough...the stories make it so much better. I have been following your blog since a couple of weeks, but I became your number one fan within only a few seconds. Thank you very much Vanessa.
Anon- that is so sweet of you to say that anon! Sometimes I think I really should shut the heck up (both in real life and on the blog!) but it is nice that you think it is okay :) Thank you also for taking the time to comment- I very much appreciate it.

@the style crusader: ha ha- I think everybody else probably found her as well! You should have seen all the people taking photos of models during Paris fashion week- it was crazy, crazy. I even saw one girl fall on her bum trying to get a shot (the model didn't want her photo taken and the photographer kept pushing and then the photographer fell on her bottom. The lovely model was so nice to her- helped her up etc). It all made me feel a bit icky and sad. I can't stand it when people take photos when someone clearly does not want their photo taken- it is rude, invasive and disrespectful. And we have to remember that the models are photographed backstage, on the runway, and coming and going from shows- it must be hugely stressful and tiring for them after 4 weeks of it.Anyway....
ReplyDelete@fashionpile- I want the hat! I want the hat, I want the hat! (if I say it enough times it might come into my possession!)
@KohCo- hee hee- fingers crossed!
@gih- she is beautiful, isn't she :)
LOVE LOVE YOUR BLOG!! Yes! I wish I could spend the day on this blog, but I have to head to work!
ReplyDeleteI would love to know how you made the transition from being a lawyer to such a WONDERFUL photographer. One day, could you tell us the story?
ReplyDeleteoh, please don't shut up! i love your stories, too. there would be too much mystery attached if you didn't share.
ReplyDeletecurious: are you working for a publication or are you able to just walk up and take photos of these fab people? i'm totally in awe of your work! love, love. heart, heart!

ReplyDeleteXXOO
Cheers everyone- you guys are lovely!
ReplyDelete@leeselooks- oh my goodness, you deserve a very LARGE scooby snack for having the patience to go through my blog!! I am located in London (but I am Australian). but I would so love to live in Paris and NYC as well!
@Alexis-yes, I will definitely share my story sometime on the blog. I have given a couple of interviews about it but I think next time I might reproduce the answers here on the blog?
@style and inspiration- nope, I am freelance so basically I have to stick on my brave face and just wander up and say "Hi, I have a street style blog, um, would you mind if I take your photo". I have been turned down a couple of times after I have told people I am not from a magazine :) That can be a bit dispiriting....
Thank you for answering my questions. I soooooo badly want to get into street style photography and am just learning the ropes on how to operate my camera away from "auto" mode. :) You are such an inspiration. It's nice to know that most people are nice -- esp people who are attending top fashion shows in Paris! xo
ReplyDelete@style and inspiration- Oooo good, I am glad it helped. You should definitely just get out there and shoot- I am still on a massive learning curve with all things camera related, with light, with posting people, with everything! In fact I don't think you ever stop learning with photography- there is always something new and interesting and different to think about or do.
ReplyDeleteCheck out The Photodiarist's blog (from New York)- her photos are inspirational. Some are candid and others are when she has asked the person.
Don't be too worried about your camera settings-even if you have to shoot on auto, it is better than not getting out there :)
Love this collection. Wow, the last photo is extraordinary. The hat, her hair blowing, the pose...it's perfection.
