Running With The Fash Pack....Paris Fashion Week A/W 2010

Exquisitely pretty model Lily Donaldson and her most fabulous necklace! I have no idea where her necklace is from (perhaps an exotic market or souk somewhere?) but I am coveting it. Love how she has teamed it with the utility jacket and grey marle t-shirt.

In a weird twist, I actually had a meeting with Lily's dad, a photographer, about 2 years ago. I wanted to get some photographic assisting work experience and he was kind enough to meet with me. We had an interesting chat about photography, work etc and at the end I asked him what he thought of my photos (I had only really just picked up a camera at that stage.... they were my old flickr photos). Bad question! He told me he thought they were odd or bizarre (can't remember which!). I was utterly mortified at the time, shed a few tears and seriously felt like giving up on my dream. Still, I do recall thinking at the time that it was much better to have my work described as "odd" rather than boring :)

  1. Her eyes are mesmerizing! I love her necklace as well.

As for your work, definitely better to be odd than boring, though I think it's nothing short of lovely!

  3. Amazing picture of Lily!!! Really love the combo of utility jacket, fur and chain necklace. And an odd coincidence with her dad, glad you didn't give up and odd and bizarre are certainly not the worst criticism haha.

  5. i can't tell you how much i enjoy your photography. there's such a palpable joy in every shot, totally devoid of that pretentiousness that seems to seep into a lot of street style photographs. i'm always looking forward to your next posts.

  6. Hello dear,

I would like to say that I am a fan of your blog. And should you not shed any more tears for your hard work. Look at you, and look at your work... I would be laughing if my work was as great as yours. I am proud of you and like many other readers, we will continue reading your blog and support your dream. I think he only said it because he have no other words to describe its greatness, plus a good photograph convey their message through their pictures right? So maybe he got confuse... :)

  11. I LOVE your blog!!!!!

I just discovered your style blog today. I went through probably 5 pages of it. It is so great! I love how the styles that you tend to showcase are not necessarily the "over the top" fashion you see on other style blogs. Most of the fashion on here is attainable, and I feel like I have all sorts of ideas for new outfits after reading it.

Thank you so much for putting this blog out there!

  12. hi, i've been reading ur blog for quite a while now, and must say your photography is something special! I was quite happy when I saw you last week (too shy to say anything!), it was near the meurice hotel you were taking a photo of these two girls, and I noticed that you really take your time to get the perfect shot! I applaud you for that. Great work!

  13. Hey thanks everyone: even I (who is THE most super-dooper critical person of my photos) really like this photo. The light was just gorgeous where I quickly snapped this.

@KohCo- Hey Bec, I have my fingers, toes and other bits of me crossed that I will be coming Down Under very soon! I would love to meet you then!! Keep your fingers crossed for me as well :)

@tanvi and @sarahd and @May- Well, I reakon my photos were pretty odd way back in my flickr days! I used to just photograph everything and anything (nothing was safe from me and my little Fuji point and shoot!...I guess now I just have more purpose and know exactly what I want to photograph. I think it was just so hard hearing the "truth" from someone when I was just starting off on this path.

@islandfairy, @Jessica, @Marla, @Roxanne: thanks so much guys for being so super supportive of me-you don't know how much it means. You are all so kind. I feel so excited and enthusiastic and, for want of a better word, pumped (eek!!) after london and paris fashion weeks- I met so many lovely people and learnt so much as well. I have lots of ideas bubbling around in my head at the moment for different things to do this year :)

In terms of what I shoot at fashion weeks, I guess I shoot pretty instinctively? (my spelling is awful!). I, mean, I love to see and photograph all the fabulous women wearing head to toe designer BUT the photos I love to take the most are the ones where I get to chat to the person, and maybe they are wearing a little high street, mixed with vintage and maybe they have a designer bag or shoes that they have saved up for. Those are the people (and the photos)which motivate, inspire me and makes me happy.

  14. Hey Anon- You SO should have come say hello!!!!! Seriously, I LOVE to chat (in fact some people would say I should stop chatting and do more photographing- hee hee!). Seriously, the way I write on my blog is pretty much how I am in person so PLEASE, if you see me again, come and say hi! I would love to meet you :)))

OMG, was I photographing two really tall girls with long curly hair just near Angelina???? They are SO gorgeous!
