Weekend Life....Australia Day Special!
It is Australia Day on 26th January (hurrah!), and Kate from I Am Not A Celebrity asked whether I would give a little interview and share some photos for a series she is doing this week on Aussies living in the UK. I pulled some of my photos from my trip back home last year to Australia for her, and thought I would share them on my blog as well. They were taken in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Noosa and I guess are a (small) insight into Aussie life through my eyes/camera lens. I still intend to do a post on each place, sharing some of my favourite places to shop, eat and drink coffee but with fashion month approaching, I am not sure I will have time to do that for a little while. So think of this as an amuse bouche to limber up your appetite for more Aussie photos :)
p.s.I am continually grateful to every single person who allows me to take their photo, stranger or not. It makes me happy that people trust me enough to let me make a photo of them.....and that applies especially to people wearing swimsuits!
I hope you enjoy this little glimpse of Australia just like Oprah did in this clip (joined by Hugh, Keith, Nicole, Russell and Olivia at the Sydney Opera House). I admit I had a little "moment" when I watched the video the other night....twice :)
So whether you are celebrating Australia Day in Queenland, NSW, ACT, Victoria, NT, South Australia, Western Australia, Tassie or around the world, at the beach, watching the cricket, firing up the barbie, sheltering from the rain (Queenslanders), munching on lamingtons, pavlova, Anzac bikkies and mini meat pies, knocking back a few beers, Happy Australia Day for tomorrow!
I still call Australia home for sure.
p.s. If you are in London this week, Taylor St Baristas are doing a flattie (flat white) and lamo (lamington) special this week for Australia Day.
i loved this. im in aussie living in the uk and i miss sydney everyday! i made lamos yesterday to have tomorrow..cant wait!
ReplyDeleteyour photos are sensational!
@Sophie- Do you do courier service with those lamingtons?!!! Just kidding, Happy Australia Day for tomorrow Sophie!
ReplyDeleteGeeze, Vanessa... these photos are gorgeous! Incredible ode to Australia. It's looks so dreamy and laid back. You know, I never felt a huge desire to go to Australia until meeting you. You're the ultimate ambassador. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out, darling. This week is making me ACHE for a trip home. x
ReplyDeletebeautiful pictures, i especially love the one with the dog, it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteThese photographs are beautiful, all of them. Some of the locations are very familiar to me. I live in Brisbane during the week and also Noosa on the weekends, off Sunshine beach. The last Photo looks like laguna bay? Seriously though I love this blog. Happy Australia Day for tomorrow!
ReplyDelete@everyone- thanks so much for your kind comments! It is fun to share a little bit of Australia this week.
ReplyDelete@hisham- the Space Cadet puppy is my cousin's family dog who had a very bad incident with a corn cob. Apparently dogs must never ever eat cobs of corn as it can obstruct airways etc and kill them. So we are extremely happy and grateful that he was saved after a (very expensive) operation. The other beautiful dog was waiting for his master on the beach while he was having a swim. He kept galloping into the water and then running out again! He shook himself all over me and my camera!
@Marina- lucky you!! I love Noosa! Little Cove Beach is my favourite place to swim (and stay). And yup that is Laguna Beach in the last shot. We stayed at The Retreat for a couple of nights....so nice!
Arr yes! Little Cove is so picturesque, also the perfect place to stay if you love Gelato! Massimo's is a daily pitstop for me in summer, I can't resist!!
DeleteAmazing photos! :) I'd love to go back to Australia :)
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! You should share pictures like these more often, or do you purhaps have an other blog for that?
ReplyDeleteStunning photographs. Love the dog!

Amazing photos! I am currently living in New York and they make me miss home so much.
ReplyDelete@Julie- Do it! Do it!
ReplyDelete@Alice- well, I thought about doing that but I struggle to update this blog let alone 2 of them! Plus it is all still about photography and part of who I am so I figure keep it all in one place. What I do need though is a website. That is a given :)

@Kate- NYC is SO amazing! I am entirely jealous!
@Stylecrusader- you have to go to Aus Jen, you would love it!
